La lucha entre la Iglesia católica y Falange en el ámbito cinematográfico (1936-1945)

Abstract

Este artículo aborda las tensiones que desde el inicio de la Guerra Civil y hasta el final de la 2 ª Guerra Mundial se vivieron entre la Iglesia católica y Falange por controlar el aparato cinematográfico español. Utilizando como material de estudio fuentes principalmente secundarias y una gran cantidad de filmografía, se trata de estudiar cómo ambas instituciones trataron de controlar un medio de comunicación tan importante en aquellos años como el cine. Se observará como la disputa fue ganada por la Iglesia a pesar de que en los primeros años de la postguerra todo apuntaba al predominio falangista. La inicial supremacía de Falange en la política cinematográfica se vio frustrada fundamentalmente por la situación internacional derivada de la II Guerra Mundial y la derrota del fascismo.

This paper addresses the tensions that took place between the Catholic Church and the Spanish Falange, from the start of the Spanish Civil War to the end of the Second World War, in order to control the Spanish cinema. The aim is to study how both institutions, the Catholic Church and the Spanish Falange, tried to control the film industry, a very important media at that time. Mostly secondary sources and numerous films have been used. It has been found out that the dispute was won by the Church even though in the early postwar years the Falange seemed to have the power. The initial supremacy of the Falange in film policy was frustrated mainly by the international situation resulting from the Second World War and the defeat of the fascism.
