productos lácteos (leche entera, mantequilla y queso).

This paper seeks to deepen the study of the fat tax as a tool available to governments to

whether its introduction in the Spanish economy would be feasible.
First, we try to understand the magnitude of the problem of obesity, and why countries
have an increasing need of instruments to control it, such as fat taxes. Our analysis
continues with them, fat taxes, a tool that is gaining attention in recent years, surrounded
by a large debate about its regressivity and effectiveness.
That is why we will carry out a simulation of two types of fat taxes. The first one is a tax on
three nutrients (sodium, cholesterol and saturated fatty acids) and the second is a tax on
three dairy products (whole milk, butter and cheese). Finally, the conclusions drawn from
the analysis are presented to consider the feasibility of introducing such a tax in the Spanish
economy. [--]
