Estudio y análisis de los riesgos higiénicos por radiaciones ionizantes en medicina nuclear

Abstract

La finalidad del presente trabajo ha consistido en el estudio, análisis y prevención de los riesgos higiénicos derivados de la exposición a Radiaciones Ionizantes en el desempeño del trabajo diario de los trabajadores especialistas en Medicina Nuclear. Para ello se ha realizado un análisis de las Radiaciones Ionizantes, cómo interactúan con la materia y los daños que pueden causar al ser humano y cómo prevenir y reducir el riesgo a la luz de la normativa y conocimientos actuales en la materia. Se ha procedido a valorar el nivel de exposición, mediante el estudio de los datos de exposición anual obtenidos de un centro hospitalario, concluyendo en una valoración de la situación actual y proponiendo posibles mejoras encaminadas a reducir dichos niveles.

The aim of the present work is to analyze the hygienic risks resulting from the exposure to Ionizing Radiations of workers specialized in Nuclear Medicine as well as the systems and protocols used to prevent the exposure risk. Thus, we describe the nature and characteristics of Ionizing Radiations, how they interact with the matter and what are the mechanisms by which they may produce biological damage in human beings. We also describe the procedures for preventing and reducing the risk based on current regulations and knowledge of the subject. In addition, we have investigated the exposure level in the Department of Nuclear Medicine of one Spanish hospital by analyzing the annual exposure data of its personnel. This study allowed us to have an assessment of the current situation and to propose possible ways to reduce the risk of exposure.
