La desigual distribución espacial del primer carlismo: una propuesta explicativa cuantitativa

Abstract

Uno de los aspectos peor explicados del carlismo es su desigual distribución territorial. Tradicionalmente se ha explicado esta desigualdad aludiendo al distinto impacto de la crisis económica en cada territorio. En este artículo he pretendido comprobar esta hipótesis y analizar otras posibilidades, utilizando criterios cuantitativos. De esta manera, he llegado a la conclusión de que, además del impacto de la crisis económica, también influyeron en el desarrollo del carlismo otros factores, como el tipo de señorío predominante, el porcentaje de nobles y la importancia de las tierras comunales.

One of the worst explained aspects of Carlism is its uneven territorial distribution. This difference has been traditionally explained referring to the different impact of the economic crisis in each territory. In this paper I have tried to check this hypothesis and to analyse other possibilities, using quantitative criteria. In this way, I have reached the conclusion that, not only the impact of the economic crisis, but also the kind of predominant estate, the percentage of noblemen and the importance of communal land had an influence in the development of Carlism.
