Xavier Mina en la historiografía española y americana

Abstract

Xavier Mina, héroe en México, ha sido desconocido por los historiadores españoles, que lo confunden generalmente con su tio Espoz y Mina, el gran defensor del Trienio Constitucional frente a los partidarios de la tiranía de Fernando VII. Aquí se presenta un análisis de la confusión existente entre ambos, tal y como aparece en la mayoría de los autores y las obras consultados. Se ofrece una amplia selección de artículos y libros publicados en España y otros países así como una amplia lista de referencias sobre el joven liberal español, tanto publicadas como inéditas, a partir del Diario de la Expedición, firmado por James A. Brush en 1818. Xavier Mina, que murió en 1817, es un eslabón perdido entre los primeros liberales que luchaban en América contra Femando VII, seguidores de la facción radical de Flórez Estrada, y la 'Revolución de Riego' ocurrida en 1820.

Xavier Mina, a mexican hero, has been unknown by the spanish historians, who generally confounded him with his uncle Espoz y Mina, the great defender of the Constitutional Triennium against the followers of the tyrannical Ferdinand VII. Here is an analysis of the mistakes that there is still about both of them as appears in the large amount of the consulted works and authors. Also a complete selection of articles and books published in Spain and abroad and a full list of references about the young spanish liberal, published or not, begining with the Journal of the Expedition, signed by James A. Brush in 1818. Xavier Mina, who died in 1817, is one lost link between the first liberals, who were fighting in America against Ferdinand VII, followers of the radical wing of Florez Estrada, and the 'Revolucion de Riegel' held in 1820.
