Publication Open Access Analysis of inter-train wireless connectivity to enable context aware rail applications(Springer, 2021) Picallo Guembe, Imanol; López Iturri, Peio; Celaya Echarri, Mikel; Azpilicueta Fernández de las Heras, Leyre; Astrain Escola, José Javier; Falcone Lanas, Francisco Javier; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de Comunicación; Institute of Smart Cities - ISC; Estatistika, Informatika eta Matematika; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio IngeniaritzarenTrain systems are fundamental players within multi-modal transit systems, providing efficient transportation means for passengers and goods. In the framework of Smart Cities and Smart Regions, providing context aware environments is compulsory in order to take full advantage of system integration, with updated information exchange among Intelligent Transportation system deployments. In this work, inter-train wireless system connectivity is analyzed with the aid of deterministic 3D wireless channel approximations, with the aim of obtaining estimations of frequency/power volumetric channel distributions, as well as time domain characteristics, for different frequency bands. The results show the impact of the complex inter-train scenario conditions, which require precise channel modelling in order to perform optimal network design, planning and optimization tasks.Publication Open Access Distributed opportunistic wireless mapping system towards smart city service provision(IEEE, 2021) Villadangos Alonso, Jesús; Falcone Lanas, Francisco Javier; López Martín, Antonio; Astrain Escola, José Javier; Sanchis Gúrpide, Pablo; Matías Maestro, Ignacio; Estatistika, Informatika eta Matematika; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio Ingeniaritzaren; Institute of Smart Cities - ISC; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de ComunicaciónThe knowledge of wireless signal distribution within an urban scenario can provide useful information to users as well as to enhance connectivity and device operation or to perform municipal logistics based on crowd density and user mobility patterns. In this work, a distributed wireless mapping system, based on a combination of opportunistic nodes such as smartphones which map geolocated WiFi access point connection and received power levels, and a cloud-based information gathering architecture is described. The proposed system has been tested in the framework of the Smart City platform of the city of Pamplona, providing signal distribution heat maps, which can be used for multiple municipal services.Publication Open Access f-HybridMem: a consensual analysis via fuzzy consensus measures and penalty functions(IEEE, 2022) Oliveira, Lizandro de Souza; Yamin, Adenauer; Reiser, Renata; Santos, Helida; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Estatistika, Informatika eta MatematikaThis paper considers the consensual analysis in decision-making (CDM) processes based on fuzzy logic (FL) and interval-valued fuzzy logic (IVFL), providing a CDM-strategy, by exploring the axiomatic properties of fuzzy consensus measures (FCM) via penalty functions. Thus, two models are formalized, FS-FCM and IVFS-FCM. In the former, the fuzzy-valued lattice enables the analysis of fuzzy information for linguistic variables (LV), which is obtained by the aggregation of penalty functions. And, in the latter, the consensus measures of fuzzy sets are aggregated to build a new consensual analysis modeling. Thus, e.g., the cohesion of several terms related to the same LV can be analyzed, and also the coherence between fuzzy sets referring to the lowest and highest projections. Such models decide based on relevance criteria and qualitative assessments, via the selection of alternatives, supporting the corresponding algorithmic strategies: FS-FCM strategy, applied to fuzzy values, and IVFS-FCM strategy, covering fuzzy sets. The Intf-HybridMem approach explores the access patterns to volatile and non-volatile memories related to decision-making in two steps: (i) the FS-FCM strategy explores consensus measures of fuzzy values from membership functions; and (ii) the IVFS-FCM strategy, modeling inaccuracy inherent in input variables, as read/write frequency and access recency, also including the migration recommendation as output, which is validated by evaluations carried out in both proposed strategies.Publication Open Access Generalization of QL-operators based on general overlap and general grouping functions(IEEE, 2022) Botelho, Cecilia; Galvao, Alessandra; Santos, Helida; Pinheiro, Jocivania; Callejas Bedregal, Benjamin; Yamin, Adenauer; Reiser, Renata; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Estatistika, Informatika eta MatematikaFirstly, this work discusses the main conditions guarantying that general overlap (grouping) functions can be obtained from n-dimensional overlap (grouping) functions. Focusing on QL-implications, which are usually generated by strong negations together with t-norms and t-conorms, we consider a non-restrictive construction, by relaxing not only the associativity and the corresponding neutral elements (NE) but also the reverse construction of other properties. Thus, the main properties of the QL-implication class are studied, considering a tuple (G,N,O) generated from grouping and overlap functions together with the greatest fuzzy negation. In addition, in order to provide more flexibility, we define a subclass of QL-implications generated from general overlap and general grouping functions. Some examples are introduced, illustrating the constructive methods to generate such operators.Publication Open Access Initiative to increment the number of women in STEM degrees: women, science and technology chair of the Public University of Navarre(IEEE, 2020) Aranguren Garacochea, Patricia; San Martín Biurrun, Idoia; Catalán Ros, Leyre; Martínez Ramírez, Alicia; Jurío Munárriz, Aránzazu; Díaz Lucas, Silvia; Pérez Artieda, Miren Gurutze; Gómez Fernández, Marisol; Barrenechea Tartas, Edurne; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Ingeniería; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de Comunicación; Estatistika, Informatika eta Matematika; Ingeniaritza; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio Ingeniaritzaren; Gobierno de Navarra / Nafarroako Gobernua; Universidad Pública de Navarra / Nafarroako Unibertsitate PublikoaThe Public University of Navarre joined with Navarre Government has created the Women, Science and Technology Chair. This chair arises due to the plummeting tendency of the percentage of women in STEM degrees with the aim of reversing this trend. The programme of activities is defined throughout this contribution by six activities: a Theatre Play, a Poster Award on Final Degree/Masters Project, The 1st Week of Women, Science and Technology, the Promotion of Technical Degrees in schools and high-schools, a Workshop about Gender Stereotypes and the Fostering of Women among Science and Environment. Each activity gained great success and the preset goals were highly accomplished, especially, the 1st Week of Women, Science and Technology activity. The latter achieved a great success both in participation and in repercussion, contributing to visualize the role of women in science and technology.Publication Open Access Intelligent SDN-based multi-protocol selector for IoT-enabled NMT networks(IEEE, 2021) Al-Rahamneh, Anas; Astrain Escola, José Javier; López Iturri, Peio; Picallo Guembe, Imanol; Falcone Lanas, Francisco Javier; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de Comunicación; Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio Ingeniaritzaren; Estatistika, Informatika eta MatematikaThe popularity of the Internet of Things is increasing and it is being used in many commercial sectors, using customized technologies for specific environments. Applications and protocols, and the unique requirements of each environment, pose a significant challenge for IoT applications, necessitating communication and message exchange support.
