Publication Open Access Introducción de la bocina en el lazo de optimización de sistemas de reflectores(2005) Delgado, D.; Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn the design process of a complete antenna system based on reflectors, the feed real performance is usually included once the reflectors have been optimized with an ideal feed. In this paper, the proposal is to include the feed inside the optimization loop of the whole system, by means of a parametric definition of the feeder. To perform the optimization, the parametric feed will be considered as an additional surface, which receives some desired electric field that should be analyzed to properly modify the feed definition parameters in order to reduce the difference between the desired and the new generated field distribution over a planar surface nearby the focal point of the system. At the end of the optimization process, all the elements of the whole antenna system, reflectors and feed, will be totally defined and perfectly coupled.Publication Open Access Estudio de resonancias parásitas en antenas corrugadas(2001) Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaA theoretical study reinforced with practical measurements about the origin of the return loss spikes in corrugated horn antennas is presented in this paper. These spikes are directly related to the periodic structure of the corrugations and can be seen in simulation and sometimes in measurements. In this paper we try to explain theirs effects, the origin of the spikes and also several tecniques to avoid them.Publication Open Access Consideraciones de paraxialidad en modos gaussianos de orden superior(1996) Ruiz de la Cuesta, María Teresa; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Sorolla Ayza, Mario; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaUsually, the gaussian beam modes are assumed to be solutions of the wave equation in the free space. Nevertheless, these modes are obtained supposing some paraxial restrictions. Therefore, we will have to check if our working conditions are obeying or not these paraxial restrictions to consider these beam modes as really solutions in free space. In other hand, applications of processing materials, surface coating, etc can use these beam modes to simplify considerably the transmision line between the generator and the final cavity. In this paper, an original study of paraxial considerations for the higher order gaussian modes is presented.Publication Open Access Mejora de las características de antenas usando superestratos parche-slot-parche (PSP)(2005) Betancourt Quiñones, Diego; Ibáñez Loinaz, Asier; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper the novel Patch-Slot-Patch (PSP) structure is presented. The frequency resonate characteristics of this structure are calculated and measured. Gain enhancement of 15 dB is obtained for PSP structure as Superstrate of a microstrip patch antenna. A grating lobe reduction of more than 16 dB is observed for a PSP structure applied over a 3x1 linear array.Publication Open Access Nuevas consideraciones al diseño de conversores de modos TE0m-TE0n para aplicaciones de alta potencia a frecuencias milimétricas(1996) Río Bocio, Carlos del; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Sorolla Ayza, Mario; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this work, the new results of a study about the general Kovalev’s coherence principle are presented. As we will show here, despite Kovalev presents the coherence principle as general, only the fundamental case can be considered in order to design a total mode converter. Only when the perturbation period length is equal to the beat length between the two desired modes we will have a total power interaction between these modes.Publication Open Access Resolution capabilities of future THz cameras(2010) Lizarraga Cubillos, Juan Camilo; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaTHz technology for developing imaging systems has recently aroused great interest, mainly due to the large number of applications in which these frequencies can be used: security, vision in hard environments, etc. In this paper we propose a method that reduces significantly the number of detectors needed for achieving certain resolution by means of diffraction that paradoxically is its main limiting factor in current imaging devices. The method uses diffraction as a way of achieving spatial diversity and as an anti-aliasing LPF. Decimation is used to reduce the number of detectors.Publication Open Access Diseño de una antena dual gaussiana de doble profundidad de corrugación(2003) Ortiz Pérez de Eulate, Noelia; Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper a new design of a dual-band corrugated horn antenna is presented. The design is based on a gaussian profile to allow high pattern symmetry, low-crosspolar levels and low-side-lobes over a wide frequency range. To achieve a dual-band corrugated horn antenna, dual depth corrugations were used along the whole profile. The design presents a nice far field radiation pattern, which is compatible with the frequency reuse requirements in satellite communication antennas. The horn has been designed to operate in two frequency bands between X, Ku and K bands. Simulations and measurements show pretty good radiation patterns with return loss below –20dB and crosspolar-levels below –30dB in both frequency bands.Publication Open Access Estudio de la posibilidad de utilizar modos de orden superior en guías de onda cuasi-ópticas(1995) Río Bocio, Carlos del; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Marín Pilz, Miguel; Sorolla Ayza, Mario; Möbius, Arnold; Thumm, Manfred; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaThe possibility to employ low power gyrotron tubes (10-30 kW, CW) at millimeter wave frequencies (30-100 GHz) has potential applications in advanced ceramic sintering, surface coating, radar, remote sensing, etc.. In materials processing applications, the final shape of the beam is not relevant, because the experiment have to be done in a cavity which has a metallic mode stirrer in order to obtain inside a uniform distribution of the electromagnetic fields. In this paper, we present a preliminar study, showing that it is possible to use high order modes in the transmission line to carry the power to the final experiment efficiently.Publication Open Access Design of concentric ring antenna arrays for isoflux radiation in GEO satellites(Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), 2011) Reyna, Alberto; Panduro, Marco A.; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaThe design of concentric rings arrays for isoflux radiation is reported in this paper. This design considers the reduction of the side lobe level and the isoflux radiation requirements for Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites. The optimization problem considers the spacing between rings and the levels of amplitude excitations. The well-known method of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is utilized for the optimization. The obtained results could lead the satellite hardware to be reduced significantly even more than results presented previously in the literature.Publication Open Access New hexagonal CORPS-BFN for multibeam antenna applications(IEEE, 2020) Biurrun Quel, Carlos; Montesano, Antonio; Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Iriarte Galarregui, Juan Carlos; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio Ingeniaritzaren; Institute of Smart Cities - ISC; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de ComunicaciónThis work presents a new topology of a Coherently Radiating Periodic Structure - Beam Forming Network (CORPS-BFN) and its application for multibeam systems. A unit cell, consisting of a transition from a coaxial input to an intersection of three strip-lines with an angular span of 120 degrees, is proposed and analysed. A periodical replication of the cell gives rise to a uniform layer, allowing a proper matching of the ports of the network. Stacked layers allow in-phase propagation and distribution of the energy through the structure, increasing the number of output ports with each layer.
