In Education Sciences and, more generally, in Human and Social Sciences, qualitative and descriptive approaches are used extensively. From a methodological point of view, triangulation is in turn widely used. This triangulation can integrate quantitative methods referring to categorical variables (or qualitative variables or ‘attribute’ variables). This specificity is often not well understood by researchers, who may lack the necessary technical training in these research areas. General considerations are provided and applied to a particular study, namely: “describing the profile students to become kindergarten or primary schools’ teachers".
