Publication Open Access Programmable retiming of an optical clock signal using the temporal Talbot effect(IEEE, 2019) Tainta Ausejo, Santiago; Erro Betrán, María José; Garde Alduncin, María José; Muriel, M. A.; Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica y de Comunicación; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa, Elektronikoaren eta Telekomunikazio IngeniaritzarenBy using a Fourier processor based on the temporal Talbot effect and the properties of the Discrete Fourier Transform, we propose a scheme that adds an adjustable delay to a train of pulses while simultaneously preserving the clock recovery property of the Talbot effect. The obtained delay can be easily tuned by modifying only the electrical signal applied to an electro-optic modulator. Experimental results prove the validity of the proposal with a fine correspondence between the desired and measured delays all over a complete period of the signal.Publication Open Access Modulated fiber ring laser and its application in high-sensitivity temperature sensors(SPIE, 2016) Pérez Herrera, Rosa Ana; Tainta Ausejo, Santiago; Erro Betrán, María José; López-Amo Sáinz, Manuel; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta Elektronikoa; Institute of Smart Cities - ISC; Ingeniería Eléctrica y ElectrónicaThis work presents an experimental demonstration of a scheme based on an internally modulated fiber ring laser for high-sensitivity temperature sensing. The attained temperature resolution has been as low as ± 2pm even when a commercial FBG with a sensitivity of 10 pm/°C was used. Thus, a fivefold improvement in the temperature sensor resolution can be achieved when compared to a simple FBG interrogation scheme. In addition to this, the measuring range could be selected only by changing the frequency modulation of the fiber ring laser. This technology also allows to triple the photodiode bandwidth unambiguously when temperature or strain measurements are carried out, which is a remarkable achievement in term of cost reduction.Publication Open Access Characterization of microring filters for differential group delay applications(IEEE, 2017) Doménech, D.; Chamorro Posada, P.; Fraile Pelaez, F.J.; Erro Betrán, María José; Tainta Ausejo, Santiago; Muriel, M. A.; Baños, R.; Bolten, J.; Kleinjans, H.; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta Elektronikoa; Institute of Smart Cities - ISC; Ingeniería Eléctrica y ElectrónicaThe longitudinal offset technique permits to improve the accuracy of the coupling coefficients of integrated directional couplers and provides designs that can be easily implemented with current fabrication tolerances. In this work, we address the additional degree of freedom offered by this technology in order to tailor the differential group delay in coupled-resonator optical filters. We present the characterization of several devices exploiting this feature and we discuss their potential applications
