Interés histórico de una singular institución educativa: el seminario conciliar de San Miguel de Pamplona y su biblioteca

El artículo presenta algunos de los puntos de interés que el historiador puede encontrar en el estudio de una institución como el Seminario Conciliar de San Miguel de Pamplona. Fundado en 1777 por el obispo Juan Lorenzo de Irigoyen con el fin de acoger a los aspirantes al sacerdocio y ofrecerles la pertinente formación, ha constituido durante casi dos siglos –hasta el establecimiento de la universidad– el principal centro educativo de Navarra. En los últimos treinta años nada menos que cinco tesis doctorales se han dedicado a investigar diversos aspectos de la trayectoria histórica del seminario. La rica biblioteca del Seminario, que alberga entre otros fondos los libros del antiguo Colegio de los Jesuitas, espera todavía un estudio de calado.

The article presents some of the points of interest that the historian can find in the study of an institution such as the Conciliar Seminary of San Miguel de Pamplona. Founded in 1777 by the bishop Juan Lorenzo de Irigoyen in order to welcome the aspirants to the priesthood and offer them the pertinent formation. It has constituted for almost two centuries the main educational center of Navarre. In the last thirty years five doctoral theses have been dedicated to investigate diverse aspects of the historical trajectory of the Seminar. The rich Library of the Seminary, which houses among other funds the books of the former College of the Jesuits, still awaits a study.
