Javier María Donézar Díez de Ulzurrun

Abstract

Javier Donézar Díez de Ulzurrun es uno de los primeros contemporaneístas navarros que se hizo eco de las corrientes de renovación de la historiografía española a primeros de los setenta. Es un especialista reconocido en el estudio empírico de las transformaciones de la propiedad de la tierra en la crisis del Antiguo Régimen. Su tesis doctoral sobre la desamortización de Mendizábal en Navarra permitió aproximarse al proceso de formación de la burguesía agraria navarra. Más tarde, desarrolló una pionera investigación sobre las estructuras agrarias del Antiguo Régimen a partir del vaciado de las «Respuestas Particulares» del catastro de Ensenada para un territorio tan amplio como la antigua provincia de Toledo, que exigió una también pionera aplicación de la informática a la investigación histórica. Además, ha prestado atención a otras temáticas, como la sociedad liberal o el nacionalismo, y ha contribuido a la divulgación histórica en obras generales, manuales universitarios y artículos en revistas diversas.

Javier Donézar Díez de Ulzurrun is one of the first Navarre’s Contemporary History specialists in pioneering the renewal approach to Spanish historiography in the early sixties. He’s renowned by his empiric study of the land ownership transformations during the Old Regime crisis. His doctoral thesis on the Disentailment of Mendizabal in Navarre enabled to get a closer view to the raise of the agricultural bourgeoisie in Navarre. Later on, he lead a pioneering investigation on the agrarian structures during the Old Regime through the emptying of the «Respuestas particulares» (individual answers) provided by the Cadastre of La Ensenada for the vast province of Toledo, which lead to a pioneering use of computer science in Historiography research. Furthermore, he’s also addressed other historical topics, such as the liberal society and nationalism, and has contributed to the spread of historiography in historical works, university handbooks, and articles in several specialized magazines.
