Efectos del hábitat y la composición de especies sobre la vegetación del sotobosque en parcelas de un bosque mixto del Prepirineo navarro

Abstract

En una serie de parcelas de un bosque mixto de Pinus sylvestris L. y Fagus sylvatica L. localizadas en Aspurz (Prepirineo Navarro), se ha estudiado el efecto del hábitat y las interacciones bióticas sobre la riqueza específica y la presencia de especies vegetales del sotobosque. Para ello, se han recopilado, para el año 2009, tras haberse efectuado dos claras (1999 y 2009), datos de variables ambientales y mapeos de vegetación de sotobosque en puntos de muestreo de 2 x 2 m. Posteriormente, se han realizado modelos estadísticos relacionando (a) la riqueza específica del sotobosque con el hábitat y (b) la presencia de cada especie de sotobosque con el hábitat, la abundancia de especies herbáceas y la de leñosas. Los resultados parecen evidenciar que las interacciones bióticas poseen un papel fundamental a la hora de predecir la presencia de un gran número de especies y, consecuencia de ello, la riqueza de especies del sotobosque. Generalmente, parece que las interacciones interespecíficas están dominadas por las relaciones de facilitación. Por su parte, entre las variables de hábitat, las más influyentes han resultado ser la altitud, y las variables que caracterizan el dosel y que se relacionan con la incidencia de radiación en el sotobosque. En contraposición, no se percibe un efecto directo de las claras sobre la presencia de las especies de la vegetación de sotobosque.

In plots of a mixed forest of Pinus sylvestris L. and Fagus sylvatica L. located in Aspurz (Navarre Pre-Pyrenees), the effect of habitat and biotic interactions on the specific richness and presence of understory plant species has been studied. For this purpose, data on environmental variables and mappings of understory vegetation at 2 x 2 m sampling points have been collected for the year 2009, after two thinning treatments (1999 and 2009). Later, statistical models have been generated relating (a) the specific richness of the understory with the habitat and (b) the presence of each understory species with the habitat and the abundance of herbaceous and woody species. The results seem to show that biotic interactions play a key role in predicting the presence of a large number of species and, consequently, the richness of the species of forest understory. Generally, it seems that inter-specific interactions are dominated by facilitation. Among the habitat variables, altitude has turned out to be the most influential, followed by the variables describing the forest canopy and the incidence of radiation in the forest understory. Finally, there is no clear and direct effect of the thinning treatments on the species presence of understory vegetation.
