Se intenta dar, igualmente, la explicación etimológica de los nombres de los despoblados seguros o supuestos del valle. Para la identificación de los posibles desolados se han tenido en cuenta los datos documentales, la estructura del nombre y su terminación. De manera breve, se puede decir que se ha aclarado el origen de la mayoría de los nombres estudiados, pero que todavía queda alguno totalmente oscuro y algún otro que puede ser explicado solo de manera parcial.Artikulu honetan Gesalazko herrien izenak eta ibarraren izena bera aztertzen ditugu, etimologiaren aldetik. Honekin batean, haraneko herrixka despopulatu seguru edo ustezkoen izenak ere azaltzen saiatzen gara. Herri hustu horiek identifikatzeko, agirietako datuak eta toponimoen egitura eta bukaera hartu ditugu aintzat. Laburbilduz, ikertutako izen gehienen jatorria zein den argitu dugula erran dezakegu, baina oraindik ere badela osoki iluna den toponimoren bat eta hein batez baizik ezin azaldu izan ditugun beste bakan zenbait.In this article we look into the etymological explanation of the names of villages in Gesalatz Valley as well as of the valley’s name itself. We moreover attempt to provide an etymological explanation of the names of the suspected and certain uninhabited villages of the valley. In order to identify the potential empty towns documentary data as well as the structure and endings of their names have been taken into account.
