It has not been plenty studied yet and it might benefit from lower requirements for the TWCs and solve packet header overhead inefficiency, yet maintaining the advantages derived from synchronicity, thus postulating as a valid solution. Objectives: • Implement a SOBS switch simulator based on an OPS switch; • Compare the performance of OPS and SOBS switches in terms of packet loss probabilities under similar conditions of traffic for three different traffic models: Poisson, Exponential and Pareto; • Compare the performance of the European optical network based on each type of switch under different traffic models according to the costs associated to the utilization of resources.application/pdfengOptical packet switches (OPS)Slotted optical burst switched (SOBS)A permormance comparison of contention resolution and resource allocation in slotted optical burst switched vs. optical packet switched network scenariosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/studentThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess
