Dado el creciente interés que existe en la sociedad acerca de las retribuciones de los deportistas profesionales, y los últimos sucesos que han puesto el foco en la tributación de los futbolistas profesionales, este trabajo afronta la raíz de este problema. Dejando claros los requisitos a cumplir para ser considerado futbolista profesional, así como la normativa aplicable al mismo, tanto laboral como deportiva, se analizan las distintas retribuciones del mismo, aclarando cuáles de ellas tienen la consideración de salario. Así mismo, se exponen los sistemas de garantía con los que cuentan los jugadores en caso de impago.
