La biblioteca de un próspero pamplonés del Siglo de las Luces. El «hombre de negocios» Juan Francisco Garísoain (1695-1750)

Abstract

El presente artículo analiza cualitativa y cuantitativamente el contenido y las características materiales de la biblioteca privada de Juan Francisco Garísoain (1695-1750), destacado comerciante pamplonés, con negocios, incluido el del libro, en España, Europa y América en los años treinta y cuarenta del siglo xviii, y al mismo tiempo reconstruye su entorno familiar, económico y social. Para ello se han utilizado fuentes inéditas de los protocolos notariales del Archivo General de Navarra y de los libros sacramentales del Archivo Diocesano de Pamplona.

This article analyzes qualitatively and quantitatively the content and features of the private library of Juan Francisco Garisoain (1965- 1750), well known merchant with relevant businesses, including the book, in Spain, Europe and America in the thirties and forties of the xviii century, and at the same time describes his social and economic environment. Sources include the notarial protocols of the General Archive of Navarre and the sacramental books of the Diocesan Archive of Pamplona.
