intergeneracional. [--]

The rapid increase in the elderly population is, without doubt, one of the greatest challenges of our
society. During 2015, around 12% of the world's population were people over 60 years of age, and it is
expected to double by the year 2050. Although Latin America is still not considered an aged region, it is
experiencing an accelerated aging process. Therefore, it is important to rethink current models of health
and social care, and design innovative strategies to face this challenge.
Aging is a biological process through which all living beings will pass, marked by a high risk of contracting
diseases, due to the progressive deterioration of the physical and mental capacities that people
experience when they reach this state. However, due to the improvement in the health care system and
the living conditions, many people age in better shape.
However, it is not only important to reach this stage in a good mental and physical state, but to keep it
at the highest level as much as possible. Therefore, it is vital to design programs aimed at promoting
healthy aging, which encourage and maintain the functional capacity of a person as high as possible, so
that they can enjoy well-being throughout their lives.
Thus, the purpose of this program is to improve the functional capacity of the elderly in Cuenca, through
a healthy ageing program with an intergenerational approach. [--]
