Medio siglo sin Toribio Echevarria (1887-1968)

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es recordar la figura de Toribio Echevarria Ibarbia (1887- 1968) en el 50 aniversario de su muerte. Para su elaboración he recurrido a sus libros y a la correspondencia con sus amigos. En el artículo se traza su biografía, se analiza su obra escrita y se ponen en relieve sus ideas. Echevarria fue un socialista eibarrés atípico. No puede decirse que fuera un político propiamente dicho, pues nunca ocupó cargo electo alguno. Sin embargo, fue considerado la 'materia gris' del socialismo eibarrés, un movimiento peculiar dentro del socialismo vasco y español.

The objective of this work is to remember the figure of Toribio Echevarria Ibarbia (1887- 1968) on the 50th anniversary of his death. In order to do this work, I have based on his books and correspondence with his friends. His biography, his ideas and his written works are exposed and analyzed in the article. Echevarria was an atypical socialist from Eibar. It cannot be said that he was a politician as he never held any political office. Nevertheless, he was considered the 'grey matter' of the socialism from Eibar, a peculiar movement within Basque and Spanish socialism.
