Along this paper we analyze one issue that investors are beginning to take into account in
their investment decissions: the readability of the company´s annual report. Therefore, in
this work we will mainly study the relation between the variations of readability of the
company annual report, measured by the FOG Index, and the changes of their default risk,
measured by the CDS spread, of different US companies. The results obtained are in the
same way established by other authors, which indicate a negative relationship between
readability and default risk, that is, the higher the credit risk, the worse the readability.
Furthermore, as a novelty, we have gone in depth in this analysis, and we have tried to
demostrate that increases in credit risk have a bigger effect on readability than decreases of
credit risk, which could be explained by the loss aversion bias. [--]
