Anosmia is one of the consequences of COVID-19 for some of the people who have survived it
and for other many people who have other disfunctions. In order to take advantage of existing
electronic platforms and help to the physical, mental and social well-being of people with olfactory
functional diversity, the concern arises to develop a portable device that helps to protect
individuals against gases that are harmful to health.
This project proposes the design, implementation, and characterization of an experimental
prototype, which allows to demonstrate the viability of a bracelet for personal use, through the
acquisition and discrimination of different odorants that represent a high risk to health. For the
realization of the device, a previous study has been performed regarding the toxic gases for health
and the different gas detection techniques both at the sanitary level and at the industrial and
commercial level, as well as the existing sensors.
In this document, the concepts to understand the proposed portable device and how it works have
been described.
The development of the prototype consists of the development of software, hardware
implementation, wireless communication with the mobile, communication via USB port with the
computer, and PCB design. Once implemented, the characterization tests with a gas panel were
carried out in the laboratory. After completing the tests, the PCB board and the prototype
container box were made.
It has been shown that using the free Arduino platform, a functional, stable, and economical
system can be implemented for use against gases that are harmful to health [--]
