Abstract
SOBS might be a good alternative to the already proposed OPS and OBS
models. It has not been plenty studied yet and it might benefit from lower
requirements for the TWCs and solve packet header overhead inefficiency,

as a valid solution. Objectives:

SOBS might be a good alternative to the already proposed OPS and OBS
models. It has not been plenty studied yet and it might benefit from lower
requirements for the TWCs and solve packet header overhead inefficiency,
yet maintaining the advantages derived from synchronicity, thus postulating
as a valid solution. Objectives:
• Implement a SOBS switch simulator based on an OPS switch;
• Compare the performance of OPS and SOBS switches in terms of
packet loss probabilities under similar conditions of traffic for three
different traffic models: Poisson, Exponential and Pareto;
• Compare the performance of the European optical network based on
each type of switch under different traffic models according to the costs
associated to the utilization of resources. [--]
