El señorío de Cadreita y los Díez de Aux-Armendáriz al vaivén de la política navarra (1446-1617)

Abstract

El señorío de Cadreita, situado al sur del reino de Navarra, se fundó el 30 de marzo de 1446, cuando el Príncipe de Viana entregó la jurisdicción alta y media y el señorío del lugar a su escudero Jaime Díez de Aux. Medio siglo después, con el fin de dotar de una mayor institucionalización al señorío, los señores de Cadreita fundaron un mayorazgo en 1503. El señorío se convirtió en marquesado en 1617, cuando Felipe III otorgó el título de marqués a Lope Díez de Aux Armendáriz. En este estudio recorreremos la historia del señorío y de sus señores, observando cómo fue consolidándose el poder de estos a través de su posicionamiento en el bando beaumontés durante los años de la guerra civil de finales de la Edad Media y cómo fueron alcanzando una prosperidad cada vez mayor en el seno de la Monarquía universal española, debido en buena medida a las conexiones que los Díez de Aux Armendáriz tenían con los monarcas de la casa de Austria.

The lordship of Cadreita, located in the south of the kingdom of Navarre, was founded on March 30, 1446, when the Prince of Viana gave the high and medium jurisdiction and the lordship of the place to his squire Jaime Diez de Aux. Half a century later, in order to provide the lordship with greater institutionalization, the lords of Cadreita founded a majorat in 1503. The lordship became a marquisate in 1617, when Philip III granted the title of marquis to Lope Diez de Aux Armendariz. In this study we will go through the history of the lordship and its lords, observing how their power was consolidated through their position on the Beaumontese side during the years of the civil war at the end of the Middle Ages and how they became increasingly prosperous within the universal Spanish monarchy, largely due to the connections that the Diez de Aux Armendariz had with the monarchs of the Dinasty of Austria.
