Los Quijada de Los Arcos y su casa solariega

Abstract

Este linaje de los Quijada o Quixada, como ellos firman habitualmente, se estableció en Los Arcos en la segunda mitad del siglo XVI, procedente de la ciudad riojana de Alfaro, adonde, a su vez, habían llegado de Tierra de Campos. Estudiar la genealogía de esta familia, es hacer un excurso por la historia de Los Arcos durante el periodo de tres siglos en que la villa estuvo anexionada a Castilla. Los sujetos varones, siempre ocuparon puestos de mando en el ayuntamiento, dentro del grupo de hidalgos al que siempre pertenecieron. Además, por tener el ayuntamiento patronato sobre la primicia parroquial, estuvieron al tanto de cuantas obras se llevaron en este singular templo, habiendo sido donantes de alguna de las imágenes. Desaparecida la herencia por línea directa de varón, Luis Francisco Quixada y Arrese buscó partido noble para su hija, en Estella, con el linaje de los Navarro Ladrón de Zegama y Amburz, y luego en Elciego con los Saenz de Navarrete, con quienes mejoró en prestigio social, llegando con ellos al siglo XX.

This lineage of the Quijada family, or Quixada as they usually signed their name, settled in Los Arcos in the second half of the sixteenth century, having earlier lived the city of Alfaro in La Rioja, and before that in Tierra de Campos. To study this family tree is to follow the path of the history of the town of Los Arcos throughout the three centuries that it was annexed to Castille. The male subjects always held positions of power in the council, within the noble groups they had always belonged to. Since the first fruits of the parish were under the patronage of the council, these men kept good count of all the works of art in the church, some of which they had donated themselves. When he had no direct male descendents, Luis Francisco Quixada y Arrese looked for an eligible nobleman for his daughter in Estella among the family of Navarro Ladrón de Zegama y Amburz, and later in Elciego among the Saenz de Navarrete, with whom he gained continuing social prestige into the twentieth century.
