La Orden de San Juan de Jerusalén en el Archivo Histórico Nacional: aproximación general a sus fuentes. El archivo del Gran Priorato de Navarra

Abstract

Señalando los jalones institucionales más destacados de la historia de la Orden Militar de San Juan de Jerusalén en España, la autora sigue el rastro de sus distintos archivos desde finales del siglo XVIII hasta su depósito definitivo en el Archivo Histórico Nacional (1897). Analiza la historia administrativa y archivística de distintas procedencias, como los de la propia Orden con sus archivos separados de las Lenguas de Castilla y Aragón, así como los archivos de la Administración estatal que tuvieron en algún momento dado competencias sobre dicha Orden (Secretarías de Estado del Despacho de Estado y de Hacienda y de Justicia). Finalmente, aborda la peculiar historia del Gran Priorato de San Juan de Jerusalén en Navarra y ofrece pistas para rastrear más documentación en otras secciones del Archivo Histórico Nacional y otros archivos españoles.

Highlighting the most important institutional milestones throughout the history of the Military Order of San Juan of Jerusalén in Spain, the author follows the trail of various archives from the end of the 18th century until their definitive storage in the National Historical Archive (1897). The administrative and filing history of various origins, such as those of the Order itself, is analysed with its archives separately from those of the Languages of Castile and Aragón and Castellanía de Amposta, as well as the State Administrative Archives which were at some time given authorisation over the aforementioned Order (Secretaries of Law of the State of the Treasury and of Justice). Finally, she tells the peculiar story of the Gran Priorato of Saint John of Jerusalem in Navarre and offers clues as to how to trace more documentation in other sections of the National Historical Archive and other Spanish archives.
