Abstract
El artículo estudia las competencias de
la Cámara de Castilla como administradora de las
facultades regias de gracia, merced y patronato
eclesiástico en cuestiones referentes a Navarra.
Al mismo tiempo relaciona la actuación del virrey
que como “alter ego” del soberano tiene ciertas
capacidades en dichas materias. Desde el punto

El artículo estudia las competencias de
la Cámara de Castilla como administradora de las
facultades regias de gracia, merced y patronato
eclesiástico en cuestiones referentes a Navarra.
Al mismo tiempo relaciona la actuación del virrey
que como “alter ego” del soberano tiene ciertas
capacidades en dichas materias. Desde el punto
de vista archivístico se dan pautas sobre la documentación
que afecta al reino, que queda separado
administrativamente de otros territorios de
la monarquía en los llamados libros de Navarra,
depositados en el Archivo General de Simancas
hasta fines del s. XVI, y hasta finales del Antiguo
Régimen en lo que afecta a la secretaría de patronato
eclesiástico. Y en el Histórico Nacional de
Madrid en lo que respecta a las secretarías de
gracia y justicia para las centurias siguientes.
Además se hace referencia de las fuentes que
recogen la documentación virreinal y que se encuentran
en el AGN. Cabe destacar que la especificidad
de Navarra fue respetada a lo largo de
los siglos, desglosándose la gestión de los asuntos
de Cámara de las de los restantes reinos de
la monarquía. [--]

The article studies the powers of the Cámara
de Castilla as administrator of the royal faculties
of pardon, mercy and ecclesiastic patronage in
matters referring to Navarre. It also relates the role
of the Viceroy, who, as the sovereign’s “alter ego”,
had certain authority in these areas. From an archival
perspective, guidelines are provided regarding
the documentation affecting the kingdom, which
was kept administratively separate from other territories
belonging to the monarchy in the so-called
books of Navarre. The books were kept in the General
Archive of Simancas until the end of the XVI
century and until the end of the Old Regime as far
as the Secretariat of ecclesiastic patronage was
concerned. And in the National Historical Archive
in Madrid regarding the Secretariats of pardon and
justice for the duration of the following centuries.
It also makes reference to the sources contained
in the viceroyal documentation and which are in
the AGN. It should be pointed out that the specific
status of Navarre was respected over the centuries,
separating the management of Cámara matters
from those of the other kingdoms under the
monarchy. [--]
