Un espacio para la fiesta: la Plaza Nueva

Abstract

Ideada y construida en 1687 fuera de las murallas de la ciudad para celebrar festejos, especialmente taurinos. Se construye sobre el cauce del río Queiles, cerca de su desembocadura en el río Ebro y el río Vencerol –lo que le convierte en única en su estilo– y con riesgo frecuente de inundaciones. Supone un gran impacto técnico, como se podrá constatar en el proceso constructivo, además de constituir en corto espacio, el conjunto de todo un proceso encadenado, de coso taurino, matadero y carnecería. A su vez, abre la ampliación de la ciudad a nuevos espacios. Superada su función como coso taurino, es en la actualidad un referente de la ciudad como centro neurálgico de acontecimientos sociales.

It was Designed and built in 1687 outside the walls of the city to celebrate festivities, Specially bullfighting fair. It was built on the river Queiles near its confluence with the River Ebro and the river Vencerol –which makes it unique in its style–, and high-risk of flooding. It was a great technical impact, as can be seen in the construction process, in addition to constitute in a short period of time, the whole of bullring, slaughter and butcher. Besides, it opens the expanse of the city to new spaces. Outdated its role as bullring, it is nowadays the meeting point between the inhabitants, residents, and Tourists to celebrate the important events.
