Calidad del sueño en pacientes sometidos a cirugía cardíaca durante el postoperatorio agudo en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos

El descanso nocturno de los pacientes ingresados en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) puede sufrir interrupciones debido a los múltiples factores presentes en este tipo de unidades, además de las ligadas al propio proceso de enfermedad. Basándonos en el Cuestionario del Sueño de Richards-Campbell (RCSQ) presentamos un estudio descriptivo cuyo objetivo es describir la calidad del sueño de los pacientes sometidos a cirugía cardiaca durante las dos primeras noches post-intervención en la UCI-A del Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra e identificar algunos de los posibles factores que lo condicionaron. Los resultados provenientes de una muestra de 66 pacientes demostraron que los pacientes presentaban un sueño de calidad regular, con buena conciliación inicial del sueño, sueño ligero, frecuentes despertares nocturnos y rápida conciliación del sueño tras los mismos. Los factores que más perturbaron su sueño fueron considerados el dolor, el disconfort y el ruido ambiental. No se encontró asociación estadística entre la calidad del sueño respecto de otras posibles variables condicionantes del sueño como el género, la edad, la distancia entre el paciente y el control de enfermería o la administración de fármacos opiáceos.

Patients who are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) can suffer interruptions in their night rest. It happens because of multiple factors that this type of service presents, in addition to the interruptions that the own disease produces. This work presents a descriptive study which is based on the Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ). The aim of this study is to describe the quality of sleep that patients have. Exactly, there are patients who are subject to a cardiac surgery. The study is done during the first two night’s post- intervention in the ICU of “Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra-A”. The second purpose of this study is to identify some of the possible factors that have influenced in it. The results from a sample of 66 patients showed different things. The first one is that patients had a regular sleep quality with a good conciliation of sleep at the beginning. The second one is that the sleep is light. And, the last one is that people have frequent awakenings, and also a quick reconciliation of sleep after the awakenings. After doing the study, we realize that the factors which most upset to the patients are three: pain, discomfort and the noise of the ICU. But we did not find statistical connection between the sleep quality and other possible variable which are an influence of the sleep, such as: gender, age, and the distance between the patient and the nursing control, or the administration of opioid drugs.
