Un reglamento de la romería del Valle de Erro a Roncesvalles

Este artículo resume y comenta un reglamento hecho para la romería del Valle de Erro a Orreaga. Desde 1888 los valles aledaños pirenaicos acuden en romería a Orreaga; este reglamento regula la ida, la vuelta y la estancia en esta villa navarra. El reglamento se hace, según la literalidad, en vista de que iba degenerando el carácter de penitencia, olvidándose poco a poco el objeto y fin de la procesión. Se manifiesta en él un deseo de control por parte de la Iglesia, de cambiar las costumbres populares, que se consideraban una ofensa a la moral cristiana y que chocaban con la mentalidad religiosa

This article summarizes and comments on the regulation made for the romería of the Erro valley to Orreaga/Roncesvalles. The people from the nearby valleys of the Pyrenees have been marching in procession to Orreaga since 1888; this regulation controls the way to go and back and the stay in this Navarrese village. Literally, according to this document these regulations were made because the character of penitence was degenerating and people were gradually forgetting about the main religious aim of the pilgrimage. This document shows a clear desire for control on the part of the Catholic Church, for a change in traditional customs, which were considered to be offensive to Christian morals and which clashed with the reigning religious mentality
