Abstract
Arm lymphedema affects thousands of people and it is necessary to control the volume to verify that there is no fluid retention. To do this, the volume of the not operated arm is compared with the volume of the operated arm. The most widespread method is the perimeter measurements of the arm with a tape measure. The aim of this work is the development of a measurement system for the volume of the upper limb based on an infrared sensor capable of reconstructing objects in 3D. To validate the system, a study has been carried out with 16 patients with lymphedema comparing both measurement methods. The results show that both methods are highly correlated and do not have significant differences between them. This system provides an objective and accurate data in a quick way and, therefore, reduces the patient waiting and consultation time.
