The environmental emergency and technological revolution have triggered significant
changes in the tourism sector. The relevance of sustainability at a social level has led to
the implementation of sustainable practices in accommodations, thus creating sustainable
tourism. On the other hand, technology has contributed to rapid growth in User-Generated
Content (UGC), as well as in the impact of Electronic Word Of Mouth (eWOM) on the
travel and hospitality sector. In particular, Online Travel Reviews (OTRs) have become
a primary source of information on which to base research related to the tourism industry.
The massive amount of data contained in platforms such as TripAdvisor entails the need
to make use of Big Data analytics for its implementation in studies such as the present
one. This research aims to discover through the analysis of the destination image
perceived by the visitor, whether tourists perceive the sustainable character of
accommodations that are classified as such. For that purpose, 10,361 English reviews
found on TripAdvisor are collected and computerized content analysis is carried out. The
results show that tourists are not aware of the sustainable character of the hotels, which
leads to the recommendation of increasing the marketing efforts of these accommodations
to transmit the idea of sustainability. [--]
