riesgo.

This paper attempts to bring a new approach to the analysis of the influence of ESG firm
scores on implied volatility, as a measures of risk. Specifically, it aims to evaluate how
call and put options of companies listed on the NASDAQ and NYSE markets respond to
major global events, such as the outbreak of covid 19 or Ukraine’s war. Throughout the
study, it was found that implied volatility is indeed affected by ESG indexes, and it gets
reduced in the presence of high environmental, social and governance scores. However,
this is only the case in the intervals prior to the onset of shock periods, and during the
development of the crises no evidence has been found confirming an attenuation of
volatility for high ESG values. [--]
