Publication Open Access Desfasadores para microstrip empleando metamateriales(2005) Cantora Álvarez, Alejandro; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper an application of LH materials at microwave frequencies (10GHz) is presented. A compact quarter-wave impedance transformer is proposed using alternating sections of left handed media (LHM) and conventional transmission lines (TL). Based on this configuration, the design of a microstrip T-junction power divider is simulated. This new power divider offers some significant advantages: it is more compact in size and its matching is better than the conventional one.Publication Open Access Arrangements of via-holes in microstrip lines as metallodielectric periodic structures(Wiley, 2000) Gómez Laso, Miguel Ángel; Lopetegui Beregaña, José María; Bacaicoa, Miguel; Hernández, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Sorolla Ayza, Mario; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta Elektronikoa; Gobierno de Navarra / Nafarroako GobernuaIn this paper, the use of via holes in microstrip lines to design periodic structures that can be regarded as metallodielectric electromagnetic crystals is analyzed. The proposed novel periodic structures achieve a notably increased reflectivity compared to that obtained with a single via hole. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are provided showing a satisfactory performance for these devices as broadband reflectors or short circuits with enhanced behavior at high frequencies.Publication Open Access Design of a multifrequency antenna array with the use of left-handed superstrates(2005) Sáenz Sáinz, Elena; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Maagt, Peter de; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper, the radiation performances of different antenna configuration based on Left-Handed superstrates are presented. First of all, the behaviour of a Left- Handed (LH) unit cell is analysed, showing a resonant response with pass band and stop band frequencies. In order to improve the radiation performances of a single dipole, ie., to increase the directivity and efficiency and to reduce the back radiation, diverse LH superstrates working at the resonant frequency of the dipole are analysed. With these configurations, improvements in terms of directivity higher than 6 dB with efficiency closer to 100 % have been obtained.Publication Open Access Planar DNG superstrate for dipole antenna gain enhancement(2007) Sáenz Sáinz, Elena; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Ikonen, Pekka; Tretyakov, Sergei A.; Maagt, Peter de; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper, a volumetric double-negative (DNG) superstrate based on grids of dipoles and wires for dipole antenna applications is proposed.Publication Open Access Diseño de una antena dual gaussiana de doble profundidad de corrugación(2003) Ortiz Pérez de Eulate, Noelia; Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper a new design of a dual-band corrugated horn antenna is presented. The design is based on a gaussian profile to allow high pattern symmetry, low-crosspolar levels and low-side-lobes over a wide frequency range. To achieve a dual-band corrugated horn antenna, dual depth corrugations were used along the whole profile. The design presents a nice far field radiation pattern, which is compatible with the frequency reuse requirements in satellite communication antennas. The horn has been designed to operate in two frequency bands between X, Ku and K bands. Simulations and measurements show pretty good radiation patterns with return loss below –20dB and crosspolar-levels below –30dB in both frequency bands.Publication Open Access Nuevas técnicas para el diseño de antenas de bocina corrugadas(2004) Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaThe present paper deals with the design of modern corrugated horn antennas for extremely low sidelobe level with the use of the well known corrugated Gaussian Profiled Horn Antenna (corrugated GPHA’s) to improve the radiation pattern features and reduce the antenna size. Basic design rules will be given to start with an appropriate profile which can be quickly used as input profile for modern optimization codes to improve antenna characteristics, i.e. its size.Publication Open Access Domain integral equations for electromagnetic band-gap slab simulations(2004) Hon, B.P. de; Beurden, M.C. van; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Martínez Pascual, Beatriz; Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Azcona, L.; Alderman, B.; Huggard, P.G.; Maagt, Peter de; Marchand, L.; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaElectromagnetic band-gap substrates o er advantages regarding cross-coupling in sub-mm range imaging array applications. Electromagnetic scattering by such substrates may e ectively be formulated in terms of integro- di erential equations. The scattered elds are evaluated via the spectral domain in which the 3-D problem reduces to an in nite system of coupled 1-D integro-di erential equations. The associated matrix-vector products are dominated by FFTs. For moderate frequencies an elementary preconditioner in combination with a prudent initial estimate usually su ces to reach rapid convergence using the transpose-free quasi-minimal residual method.Publication Open Access Comparación entre antenas cónicas corrugadas y antenas gaussianas corrugadas(2002) Teniente Vallinas, Jorge; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this paper, a study of two equal size corrugated horn antennas; a conical and a gaussian profiled horn antenna (GPHA) has been developed. It will be demonstrated that GPHA´s provide lower sidelobes and wider bandwidths, while conical corrugated horn antennas offer higher directivities for the same aperture. Both type of antennas provide low crosspolar levels.Publication Open Access Sub-millimetre wave imaging array configurations using EBG technology(2004) Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Martínez Pascual, Beatriz; Río Bocio, Carlos del; Azcona, L.; Alderman, B.; Huggard, P.G.; Hon, B.P. de; Beurden, M.C. van; Marchand, L.; Maagt, Peter de; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaPublication Open Access Dipolos y metamateriales: mejora de las características de radiación(2004) Sáenz Sáinz, Elena; Gonzalo García, Ramón; Ederra Urzainqui, Íñigo; Maagt, Peter de; Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica; Ingeniaritza Elektrikoa eta ElektronikoaIn this work, pass band properties of Left Handed Media (LHM) are demonstrated. These properties have been used in order to make a LHM super-substrate that is put over a dipole antenna. This super-substrate is going to determine the characteristics of radiation patterns. Simulation with different types of configurations are presented in order to enhance the features of radiation patterns at bore-sight direction.
