    En este documento se presentan los fundamentos historiográficos y metodológicos de la base de datos del Fondo Documental de la Memoria Histórica en Navarra, desarrollada en la Universidad Pública de Navarra como consecuencia del encargo institucional realizado por el Parlamento y el Gobierno de Navarra. Con este fin, se ha procedido a elaborar una base de datos que permita una ágil consulta por parte de diferentes agentes sociales, institucionales y académicos en torno a la represión franquista, intentando incluir en ella la gran variedad de prácticas represivas que la historiografía ha ido identificando. Primeramente, se presenta un balance sobre la publicación, en los últimos años, de diferentes bases de datos on-line en torno a las víctimas de la guerra civil y la represión franquista en varias comunidades autónomas. A continuación, se presenta la unidad de análisis de nuestra base de datos, “los hechos represivos”, insertándola en el contexto historiográfico en torno a la represión franquista y los estudios sobre la violencia. En un tercer apartado pasamos a describir las diferentes categorías y subcategorías represivas en las que se enmarcan los hechos represivos, y finalmente se presentan algunas características técnicas de la organización interna de la información y el sofware de la base de datos.

    Paired structures in knowledge representation

    In this position paper we propose a consistent and unifying view to all those basic knowledge representation models that are based on the existence of two somehow opposite fuzzy concepts. A number of these basic models can be found in fuzzy logic and multi-valued logic literature. Here it is claimed that it is the semantic relationship between two paired concepts what determines the emergence of different types of neutrality, namely indeterminacy, ambivalence and conflict, widely used under different frameworks (possibly under different names). It will be shown the potential relevance of paired structures, generated from two paired concepts together with their associated neutrality, all of them to be modeled as fuzzy sets. In this way, paired structures can be viewed as a standard basic model from which different models arise. This unifying view should therefore allow a deeper analysis of the relationships between several existing knowledge representation formalisms, providing a basis from which more expressive models can be later developed.

    A survey on fingerprint minutiae-based local matching for verification and identification: taxonomy and experimental evaluation

    Fingerprint recognition has found a reliable application for verification or identification of people in biometrics. Globally, fingerprints can be viewed as valuable traits due to several perceptions observed by the experts; such as the distinctiveness and the permanence on humans and the performance in real applications. Among the main stages of fingerprint recognition, the automated matching phase has received much attention from the early years up to nowadays. This paper is devoted to review and categorize the vast number of fingerprint matching methods proposed in the specialized literature. In particular, we focus on local minutiae-based matching algorithms, which provide good performance with an excellent trade-off between efficacy and efficiency. We identify the main properties and differences of existing methods. Then, we include an experimental evaluation involving the most representative local minutiae-based matching models in both verification and evaluation tasks. The results obtained will be discussed in detail, supporting the description of future directions.

    Strengthened ordered directional and other generalizations of monotonicity for aggregation functions

    A tendency in the theory of aggregation functions is the generalization of the monotonicity condition. In this work, we examine the latest developments in terms of different generalizations. In particular, we discuss strengthened ordered directional monotonicity, its relation to other types of monotonicity, such as directional and ordered directional monotonicity and the main properties of the class of functions that are strengthened ordered directionally monotone. We also study some construction methods for such functions and provide a characterization of usual monotonicity in terms of these notions of monotonicity.

    Extensions of fuzzy sets in image processing: an overview

    This work presents a valuable review for the interested reader of the recent Works using extensions of fuzzy sets in image processing. The chapter is divided as follows: first we recall the basics of the extensions of fuzzy sets, i.e. Type 2 fuzzy sets, interval-valued fuzzy sets and Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets. In sequent sections we review the methods proposed for noise removal (sections 3), image enhancement (section 4), edge detection (section 5) and segmentation (section 6). There exist other image segmentation tasks such as video de-interlacing, stereo matching or object representation that are not described in this work.

    A preliminary study about gender gap perception in informatics studies in Spain

    The gender gap in STEM is an issue that affects regions and countries worldwide. Furthermore, the percentage of women in these areas depends on a range of different factors. In particular, the gender gap is critical in technology in general and, more specifically, in informatics. This problem affects not only the business sector but also society. Informatics is part of our lives; however, 50% of the world population is not represented in the teams that are developing solutions for solving society's problems. In Spain, the number of women with informatics degrees is around 15%. This work describes a case study developed by the committee of Women in Informatics at the Scientific Society of Spanish Informatics (SCIE) to analyse the perception of informatics scientists on the gender gap in informatics.

    Using the Choquet integral in the fuzzy reasoning method of fuzzy rule-based classification systems

    In this paper we present a new fuzzy reasoning method in which the Choquet integral is used as aggregation function. In this manner, we can take into account the interaction among the rules of the system. For this reason, we consider several fuzzy measures, since it is a key point on the subsequent success of the Choquet integral, and we apply the new method with the same fuzzy measure for all the classes. However, the relationship among the set of rules of each class can be different and therefore the best fuzzy measure can change depending on the class. Consequently, we propose a learning method by means of a genetic algorithm in which the most suitable fuzzy measure for each class is computed. From the obtained results it is shown that our new proposal allows the performance of the classical fuzzy reasoning methods of the winning rule and additive combination to be enhanced whenever the fuzzy measure is appropriate for the tackled problem.

    Learning ordered pooling weights in image classification

    Spatial pooling is an important step in computer vision systems like Convolutional Neural Networks or the Bag-of-Words method. The spatial pooling purpose is to combine neighbouring descriptors to obtain a single descriptor for a given region (local or global). The resultant combined vector must be as discriminant as possible, in other words, must contain relevant information, while removing irrelevant and confusing details. Maximum and average are the most common aggregation functions used in the pooling step. To improve the aggregation of relevant information without degrading their discriminative power for image classification, we introduce a simple but effective scheme based on Ordered Weighted Average (OWA) aggregation operators. We present a method to learn the weights of the OWA aggregation operator in a Bag-of-Words framework and in Convolutional Neural Networks, and provide an extensive evaluation showing that OWA based pooling outperforms classical aggregation operators.

    CFM-BD: a distributed rule induction algorithm for building compact fuzzy models in Big Data classification problems

    Interpretability has always been a major concern for fuzzy rule-based classifiers. The usage of human-readable models allows them to explain the reasoning behind their predictions and decisions. However, when it comes to Big Data classification problems, fuzzy rule based classifiers have not been able to maintain the good tradeoff between accuracy and interpretability that has characterized these techniques in non-Big-Data environments. The most accurate methods build models composed of a large number of rules and fuzzy sets that are too complex, while those approaches focusing on interpretability do not provide state-of-the-art discrimination capabilities. In this paper, we propose a new distributed learning algorithm named CFM-BD to construct accurate and compact fuzzy rule-based classification systems for Big Data. This method has been specifically designed from scratch for Big Data problems and does not adapt or extend any existing algorithm. The proposed learning process consists of three stages: Preprocessing based on the probability integral transform theorem; rule induction inspired by CHI-BD and Apriori algorithms; and rule selection by means of a global evolutionary optimization. We conducted a complete empirical study to test the performance of our approach in terms of accuracy, complexity, and runtime. The results obtained were compared and contrasted with four state-of-the-art fuzzy classifiers for Big Data (FBDT, FMDT, Chi-Spark-RS, and CHI-BD). According to this study, CFM-BD is able to provide competitive discrimination capabilities using significantly simpler models composed of a few rules of less than three antecedents, employing five linguistic labels for all variables.

    A survey of fingerprint classification Part I: taxonomies on feature extraction methods and learning models

    This paper reviews the fingerprint classification literature looking at the problem from a double perspective. We first deal with feature extraction methods, including the different models considered for singular point detection and for orientation map extraction. Then, we focus on the different learning models considered to build the classifiers used to label new fingerprints. Taxonomies and classifications for the feature extraction, singular point detection, orientation extraction and learning methods are presented. A critical view of the existing literature have led us to present a discussion on the existing methods and their drawbacks such as difficulty in their reimplementation, lack of details or major differences in their evaluations procedures. On this account, an experimental analysis of the most relevant methods is carried out in the second part of this paper, and a new method based on their combination is presented.
