The impact of ISO 9000 and EFQM on the use of flexible work practices
(Elsevier, 2011) Bayo Moriones, José Alberto; Merino Díaz de Cerio, Javier; Escamilla de León, Sergio Antonio; Selvam, Rejina Mary; Gestión de Empresas; Enpresen Kudeaketa
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the differences between the two most frequently used quality management approaches implemented by firms, ISO 9000 and EFQM, in terms of their impact on the adoption of innovative work organization practices. In order to accomplish this objective, we have selected a sample of 665 establishments with at least 20 employees, from the manufacturing, building and service sectors. Results show that, as expected, EFQM involves an advance over ISO 9000 regarding the use of innovative work practices.

Quality assurance practices in the global supply chain: the effect of supplier localisation
(Taylor & Francis, 2011) Bayo Moriones, José Alberto; Bello Pintado, Alejandro; Merino Díaz de Cerio, Javier; Gestión de Empresas; Enpresen Kudeaketa
This paper deals with quality management practices in the global supply chain. More specifically, the association between the geographical location of suppliers (within a country or in low labour cost countries) and quality assurance practices is analyzed. Three hypotheses are proposed and tested using a sample of 401 Spanish manufacturing establishments with at least fifty workers in all industries. The results indicate that plants purchasing a higher proportion of their inputs in low-cost countries are more likely to be certified according to a quality standard. However, no associations have been found between the localization of suppliers and the establishment of close relationships with suppliers in order to assure quality.

Participation, cooperatives and performance: an analysis of Spanish manufacturing firms
(2002) Bayo Moriones, José Alberto; Galilea Salvatierra, Pedro Javier; Merino Díaz de Cerio, Javier; Economía; Ekonomia
This paper attempts to analyze the effects that shopfloor participation has on firm performance and examine if cooperatives show better results than capitalist firms. Moreover, it tries to study if the impact of participation on performance is different in cooperatives and capitalist firms. To fulfill these objectives information about 965 Spanish manufacturing plants with at least fifty employees is used. The results indicate that there are not significant differences in the performance of cooperatives and the rest of companies. Our findings also show that the introduction of participatory practices generates positive outcomes both for capitalist firms and cooperatives, without differences in the magnitude of the impact.
