The recent rise in e-commerce has made last mile delivery and urban logistics even more important for the well-functioning of every major city. New methods for last mile delivery are just being developed such as automated parcel lockers. Automated parcel lockers are a self-collection delivery system, electronic based, safe and that allows the customer to choose the location and time of collection. Another crucial solution used nowadays for having an optimal and environmentally friendly last mile delivery method is the optimization of routes. Modern softwares are programmed to provide the most efficient route in terms of distance, time, and combustible consumption to the right worker at the right time. This project studies how these two recent advances in last mile delivery save time, resources and CO2 emissions and improve urban logistics in Buenos Aires. Data of when and from where packages are collected from locations of automated parcel lockers will be collected. In addition, workers from a local company of food delivery that works with route optimization algorithms will be kept track of their activity for a week and compared with traditional food-to-home delivery methods. To reach conclusions about the impact of the last mile delivery methods studied on traffic and CO2 emissions the variables observed will be approached to different statistical distributions. What is more, to determine the impact of the route optimization algorithms and to find correlations between different factors that intervene in these methods, the variables will be used for statistical tests such as the t-student and the chisquared.en
