Impacto psicosocial del diagnóstico de cáncer infantil en hermanos de supervivientes: una revisión de alcance

| dc.description.abstract | Introducción: la supervivencia del cáncer infantil ha mejorado en los últimos años. Sin embargo, el diagnóstico afecta emocionalmente a pacientes y familiares, especialmente a los hermanos, quienes, en ocasiones, son olvidados. Objetivo: mapear y sintetizar las evidencias publicadas sobre el impacto psicosocial del diagnóstico de cáncer infantil en hermanos de los supervivientes. Material y métodos: se ha llevado a cabo una revisión de alcance con metodología sistemática en las bases de datos PubMed, CINAHL y PsycInfo, para identificar estudios publicados en inglés, español y portugués, entre 2013 y febrero de 2024. Al final, se incluyeron 19 estudios que exploraban el impacto psicosocial del diagnóstico de cáncer infantil en hermanos de los supervivientes. Resultados: el diagnóstico de cáncer infantil altera la dinámica familiar, afectando a todos los miembros de la misma, incluyendo a los hermanos, quienes en muchas ocasiones son olvidados. Estos experimentan emociones como ansiedad, culpa y soledad. Este impacto se refleja en su calidad de vida, académicamente y en su salud mental. La falta de apoyo específico y comunicación adecuada dentro de la familia agudiza su situación, generando un ambiente de incertidumbre y estrés. No obstante, existen intervenciones que ayudan a mitigar estos efectos, proporcionando herramientas para una adaptación saludable y fortaleciendo el bienestar emocional de los hermanos. Conclusiones: la investigación destaca la importancia de atender las necesidades de los hermanos de los sobrevivientes de cáncer infantil y sugiere que un enfoque centrado en la familia y la implementación de intervenciones específicas pueden mejorar su bienestar durante el tratamiento oncológico pediátrico. | es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: the survival rate of childhood cancer has improved in recent years. However, the diagnosis emotionally affects patients and family members, especially siblings, who are sometimes forgotten. Objective: to map and synthesize published evidence on the psychosocial impact of childhood cancer diagnosis on siblings of survivors. Material and methods: a scoping review was conducted with systematic methodology in the PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycInfo databases to identify studies published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese between 2013 and February 2024. In the end, 19 studies exploring the psychosocial impact of childhood cancer diagnosis on siblings of survivors were included. Results: the diagnosis of childhood cancer alters family dynamics, affecting all members, including siblings, who are often overlooked. They experience emotions such as anxiety, guilt, and loneliness. This impact is reflected in their quality of life, academically, and in their mental health. The lack of specific support and adequate communication within the family exacerbates their situation, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and stress. However, there are interventions that help mitigate these effects, providing tools for healthy adaptation and strengthening the emotional well-being of siblings. Conclusions: the research highlights the importance of addressing the needs of siblings of childhood cancer survivors and suggests that a family-centered approach and the implementation of specific interventions can improve their well-being during pediatric oncological treatment. | en |
