Ayuda mutua en lactancia: los grupos de apoyo a la lactancia materna

Los Grupos de apoyo a la lactancia materna (GALM) nacen a mediados del siglo XX como un movimiento social, formando grupos y colectivos que ofrecen apoyo a las mujeres que desean amamantar. Hoy en día se han convertido en un importante apoyo educativo y emocional para la madre lactante, así como un instrumento de reivindicación del derecho a poder amamantar . En el siguiente trabajo se expone una revisión bibliográfica sobre los GALM con el objetivo de estudiar la eficacia del apoyo madre a madre, así como un estudio de caso . Finalmente, se propone un folleto informativo sobre los GALM, con el objetivo aportar información de utilidad a las mujeres gestantes y madres, así como aumentar la visibilidad de este recurso desde los servicios sanitarios.

Breastfeeding support groups were born during the middle of the 20th century as a social movement, creating groups and collectives which offer support to those women who want to breastfeed their babies. Nowadays they have become an important educative and emotional support for lactanting mothers, as well as a claiming tool of the breastfeeding right. In the following paper a bibliographic review about breastfeeding support groups is exposed. The aim of this is to study the effectiveness mother-to-mother support, as well as a review of the case. Finally, an information leaflet about breastfeeding support groups is suggested. Its aim is to provide useful information to expectant woman and mothers, as well as increasing the visibility of this resource from health services.
