Abstract
In this document, a novel waveguide band-pass filter design technique is presented. The proposed methodology achieves compact devices with highperformance features. The technique improves the filter performance by introducing two transmission zeros with one resonator, in addition to the pole. This is the main difference with other design techniques which introduce transmission zeros in the frequency response, since, in such techniques, each resonator generates one pole and one transmission zero. Duplicating the number of transmission zeros in the frequency response results in a better rejection band and in a higher selectivity. This improvement is possible since the proposed technique uses a higher order resonant mode than other similar techniques. More specifically, the resonant mode is the TM120. Given that the resonant frequency of this mode is independent of the resonator length in the propagation direction, compact filters can be created, adding value to the device in certain applications. In addition, the used resonators are simple and the designs are symmetrical with respect to the YZ plane, so the devices can be manufactured in two halves, splitting them by the E plane. In order to prove the utility of the proposed technique, a comparison with other methodologies is carried out, showing the performance improvements. Once the proposed technique has been analyzed, a complement to the project is presented, in which the modifications needed to adapt the designs so that they can be manufactured using certain manufacturing techniques are explained and, finally, two designs are proposed to be manufactured.
