This Master Thesis claims that the optics are insufficiently covered in the official curricula of
Secondary Education in Spain. An examination of the contents in the curricula infers that optics
and waves are missing throughout the ESO and most of the Bachillerato, with the only exceptions
being found in the optional subject Physics in the second year of Bachillerato. With the aim of
introducing these contents in Secondary Education, a lesson plan is proposed which intends to
build a visible spectrum spectrometer using active learning methodologies. The results obtained
with this lesson plan on a group of students in the second year of Bachillerato at IES Basoko in
Pamplona during the COVID 19 are discussed. These results are quite limited but encouraging,
given the adverse circumstances of the confinement. [--]
