bajas no complicadas (cistitis).

The health professional in the Pharmacy Office is, very often, the first health
professional that a patient consults when she suffers a minor pathology. Among the
reasons for consultation is acute uncomplicated cystitis. Faced with this demand, the
pharmacist cannot and is not qualified to dispense the antibiotic without a prescription.
The only thing that could be done would be the referral to the corresponding health
center. This, however, is valuable time for patients who visit the Pharmacy. Therefore,
the subject on which this project focuses is both academic training - for Pharmacy
professionals - and logistics for the Pharmacy Office (FO), in order to take action in a
very common pathology among women; urinary tract infections (UTIs) and more
specifically uncomplicated lower tract infections (cystitis). Before implementing the
program in all the FOs in Navarra, a pilot test is started in 5 FOs in the center of Pamplona
to assess its effectiveness.
To do this, an action plan consisting of 7 phases is carried out. In the first place, a review
of the problem is carried out in order to develop the diagnostic technique and the
procedure to follow when a patient goes to the Pharmacy with compatible symptoms;
anamnesis, algorithm for referral to the doctor, urine collection and interpretation of
results, patient record sheet and final recommendation. In addition, these phases
include the continuous training plan for Pharmacy professionals by the Official College
of Pharmacists of Navarra and the University of Navarra in order to achieve training
through the acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and skills for the diagnostic test.
Finally, an outreach campaign with advertising is carried out and an estimated cost of
the project is made including all the phases, human and material resources needed for
its realization. The evaluation of the pilot test is carried out using both qualitative and
quantitative indicators. These will show the efficacy and usefulness of the pilot test, as
well as the satisfaction of the users who have undergone the diagnostic test in one of
the 5 FOs in the center of Pamplona. With all this, it will be possible to assess the possible
implementation at the Provincial level of the rapid test for the detection of
uncomplicated acute cystitis in women in the Pharmacy Offices. [--]
