La imagen y las fuentes patrimoniales locales en el desarrollo de competencias históricas en un grupo de alumnos de 4º de ESO: el caso de la Fuga de Ezkaba de 1938

Abstract

Tanto la investigación de los historiadores como la formación en competencias históricas de los alumnos requieren inexorablemente del empleo de fuentes históricas. La era digital ha facilitado el acceso de unos y otros a una cantidad y calidad de fuentes hace décadas impensables. Pero esto no implica que, especialmente los segundos, sean capaces de validar estas fuentes y convertirlas en prueba. El presente trabajo analiza si el empleo de la imagen y la visita a enclaves patrimoniales de la historia local ayudan a los alumnos en este proceso. Apoyado en una metodología cualitativa a través de encuestas y análisis de producciones textuales de un grupo de 41 alumnos de 4º de ESO de un centro de la Comarca de Pamplona, este análisis evidencia que, tras una formación en la interpretación de imágenes, efectivamente son capaces de comprender el concepto de fuente histórica y de obtener recursos para convertirlas en pruebas que apoyen su investigación. Igualmente, que estudiar la historia local aprovechando la visita a un enclave patrimonial, incrementa su interés y la pertinencia de los estudios históricos y contribuye al fortalecimiento de sentimientos de identidad, empatía y de capacidad crítica con el pasado y el presente. El caso analizado es la fuga del penal de Ezkaba, considerada la mayor de Europa, acaecida el 22 de mayo de 1938, en plena Guerra Civil española y cuyo escenario, el Fuerte Alfonso XII, aún se conserva.

Both the research of historians and the training in historical skills of the students inexorably require the use of historical sources. The digital era has facilitated the access of ones and others to a quantity and quality of sources for decades unthinkable. But this does not imply that, especially the students, are able to validate these sources and turn them into evidences. The present work analyzes if the use of the image and the visit to patrimonial enclaves of the local history help the students in this process. Supported by a qualitative methodology through surveys and analysis of textual productions of a group of 41 students of 4th year ESO from a center in the Comarca de Pamplona, this analysis shows that, after training in the interpretation of images, they are effectively capable of understanding the concept of historical source and obtain resources to turn them into evidence that supports their research. Likewise, studying the local history taking advantage of the visit to a heritage site increases their interest and the relevance of historical studies and contributes to the strengthening of feelings of identity, empathy and critical capacity with the past and the present. The case analyzed is the escape of Ezkaba prison, considered the largest in Europe, which occurred on May 22, 1938, during the Spanish Civil War and whose stage, Fort Alfonso XII, is still preserved.
