través de estudios tanto in vitro como in vivo.

Global agricultural productivity will need to increase sustainably in the coming years to meet the
demands of a growing population. Abiotic and biotic factors jeopardize the productive potential
of many species and there is currently a notorious shortage of options to reduce the use and risks
associated with agrochemicals. A sustainable alternative to reduce the dependence on chemicals
is the use of beneficial microorganisms in agriculture. The main objective of this study is to study
the efficacy of cell-free filtrates of liquid cultures of the fungus Penicillium aurantiogriseum in
the control of fungal diseases of agronomic interest, such as those caused by the phytopathogenic
fungi Botrytis cinerea, Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum and Verticillium dahliae. The
biocontrol activity of these filtrates has been investigated through both in vitro and in vivo studies. The results obtained in this work indicate that the filtrates have antagonistic ability to antagonize
the growth of the 4 plant pathogenic fungi in in vitro plate assays. It has been observed that the in
vitro antagonistic capacity of the filtrates is much higher in liquid culture than in solid plate culture
for all the fungi tested. The results of in vivo post-harvest fruit tests indicate that filtrates have a
biocontrol effect against B. cinerea on both apple and tomato, although they are not able to prevent
infection by A. alternata on tomato. In addition, it is very interesting that filtrates seem to induce
resistance to B. cinerea in fruit. However, further work will be necessary to ensure batch-to-batch
homogeneity in order to confidently establish a P. aurantiogriseum growth protocol that will help
to determine with confidence how many days of growth are optimal for finding greater bioactivity
in the filtrates.
On the other hand, no in vivo antagonistic capacity of filtrates against the soil fungi F. oxysporum
and V. dahliae has been observed, although these results are preliminary. Analysis of the
bioactivity of the proteins present in the filtrates has shown no evidence of biocontrol in
postharvest fruit, and only some inhibition of the growth of V. dahliae mycelium on a plate was
observed.
In conclusion, the filtered cultures of P. aurantiogriseum have potential as a new biocontrol agent
of phytopathogenic fungi of agronomic interest, which opens a promising field of research to
establish its real range of future applications. [--]
