Traditionally, there has been a separation between the home and the domestic sphere, that is,
the private sphere, and the public and social sphere. This differentiation brought with it a gender
separation through which the role of caring for the home and family was assigned to women,
and the role of the public and professional to men; the latter were responsible for bringing
money into the home. For its part, the capitalist system in which society is immersed has made
invisible and devalued all those tasks that are not remunerated, as is the case of care, making
invisible, in turn, all the work of women with regard to this role.
Today the pigeonholing of these roles has been dissolved due to the great advances in gender
equality carried out in recent decades at the hands of the feminist struggle. Thus, the immersion
of women in the labor market has brought with it the so-called parental co-responsibility, which
consists of an equitable distribution of household chores.
The aim of this paper is to analyze, in the case of the Autonomous Community of Navarre,
whether this female insertion has achieved a true distribution of household care that is, whether
there really is parental co-responsibility, or whether, on the contrary, there continues to be an
unequal distribution of this function, in which care continues to be a feminized task. [--]
